The tune or urge to learn something new inspires us to do some challenging work beyond the rut of prevailing paths. If age and rank do not come in the way of this, then it also gives pleasant and beneficial results. When a government worker got such an opportunity, he not only invented the skill of changing the traditional way of farming to earn manifold profits but also showed a new way to the villagers who were farming through the old method.
In the field of farming and farming, this person who has been successful, has proved that wherever there is a will, there is a way. The name of that enthusiastic person who has become a successful agricultural worker by presenting himself for innovation. Parthibhai Jethbhai Chaudhary.
Affection forced farming to leave the job
Parthibhai hails from Dantiwada in Banaskantha, Gujarat. Parthibhai, 59, previously worked in the Gujarat Police. But his attachment to farming and the desire to do something different dissuaded him from his job and he quit his government job to do farming almost 18 years ago. In fact, it was during his job in the police that he got the opportunity to train by the foreign company MECAN. Mecan makes potato related products and also trains farmers for quality potato production.
Parthibhai learned all the techniques of Potato Cultivation by Mecan. After learning the finer points of the work, he started producing potatoes. However, lack of water stood as a major problem in front of them. To overcome this, he resorted to drip irrigation (drips irrigation) technique.
What is drips irrigation method and how it is used?
Farming with this method saves both water and manure. Actually, in this method, water is dripped drop-by-drop on the roots of the plants. By constructing valves, pipes or drains, such a structure is created that the water only drips around the roots of the plants. According to scientists, if irrigated with this method, plants get the required amount of water daily. As a result, both the growth and production of crops increase.
Parthibhai made it his weapon to get rid of water scarcity and first got sprinklers in his fields. With its help, they receive 750 MM every year. Water seekers operate in very less water. Initially, he used to supply his potatoes to Mecan. But now, due to the good price, he supplies his chips to a company that makes big chips like Balaji Wafers.
Production in 87 acres of land earns 3.5 crores annually
Today Parthibhai cultivates potato in his 87 acres of agricultural land. They sow in the fields every year from 1 to 10 October, so that by December their crop is ready. Around 1200 kg per hectare potato is produced in this season. Their fields contain up to 2 kg of potatoes. After the crop is ready, they store their potatoes in cold storage and supply them according to the demand. After three months of hard work, there is no more work in the fields and then they give their time to their family. In his absence, all his work is handled by his manager and staff. Currently, more than 16 people work on his farm. On average, they sell potatoes worth more than Rs 3.5 crore every year.
The belief of learning something new and succeeding, which has energized him at this stage of his age, is an example of his success. An example that inspires people like him and farmers to innovate and succeed. If he had not left the police job to fulfill his dream, he would not have reached this stage today. Parthibhai’s success is a successful example of her passion to fulfill her dream.
