Tarishi Jain – She was busy enjoying the joys of motherhood. Suddenly one day she realized that she was missing something and that was her job. For someone who had always been a freelancer and employed, it was not easy to spend time like this. It was one of those days when her mother-in-law came home with a gift for the baby girl. This tiny hand-knitted frock marked the beginning of what changed the course of life for Tarishi as she embraced entrepreneurship.
Today the same seed of entrepreneurship is known as the successful tree of wonder.in. Inspired by a piece of cloth woven by her mother-in-law’s hand, Tarishi decided to turn a few pages of the past when she learned the art of weaving and embroidery as a young man.
She weaved some clothes for her daughter, which her family and friends liked a lot. She weaved the pieces here and there and gave very beautiful shape to the clothes, which became quite a hit. Soon she started getting orders from other people as well. This increased demand prompted him to look for women around him who could not only weave but who also needed regular work. Gradually this idea became a huge employment opportunity for women.
Ajooba.in (Ajoobaa.in) was started in the year 2018. The start-up performed exceptionally well in its very first year and was highly appreciated. Seeing the increase in demand, Tarishi’s husband Nivesh quit his corporate job and started helping her in the business. Presently the couple has reached out to Self Help Groups in different states and is providing them raw material to work. These women are remunerated after the dress is over, leaving no room for any fear of non-payment. In a developing nation where work opportunities and decent wages for women are still one of the most important issues in the social fabric, both Tarishi and Nivesh are empowering more than 250 artisan women across the country.
Apart from this, Ajooba has also launched another in-house brand named Voonee, which is available on all e-commerce portals in the country like Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart, Ajio. With an aim to empower artisans across the country, Ajooba strives to engage more and more women.
An architect by profession, Tarishi never thought of setting up a kids apparel business but as we know an idea has the power to change our lives. A simple start in Sonipat, today it has established itself as a familiar brand with around 4,000 orders in a month. Tarishi and Nivesh have taken the lead to reduce the burden of artisan women by paying their artisans well and providing them raw material at their doorstep. In the financial year 2019-2020, the annual turnover of the wonder stood at Rs 1.04 crore, which increased to 2.45 crore in 2020-2021 despite the COVID epidemic.
The most beautiful thing is that she hired so many women even during these tough times and ensured that the payments reach them regularly.
True Entrepreneurs are the ones who open the way for growth not only for themselves but for others with their ideas and through Ajooba.in, Tarishi and Nivesh’s efforts for the upliftment of weavers women are really commendable. is. Only such young entrepreneurs have the power to make the country self-reliant in true sense.
