When women go to the market for these cosmetics, they have less knowledge about which product would be appropriate according to their physical appearance and there is also a shortage of people who give proper information. Realizing the problems of women, our today’s story is dedicated to a woman who has stepped into the field of beauty cosmetics, leaving her 25-year bright career.
After leaving IIM, Ahmedabad in 1985 batch Phalguni Nair Started her career by A.F. From Ferguson. In 1993, she moved to Kotak Mahindra Finance and established the company’s London office and after 3 years established the company’s office in the United States. She moved to India in 2001 and worked with Kotak Mahindra until 2012. Falguni started an e-commerce company in 2012 under the name nykaa com. Here, she started a business of products related to beauty, makeup, personal care and wellness.
This was an excellent effort to bring international level products and their functioning to the market for Indian women. To start this work, Falguni quit the job of managing director of Kotak Mahindra Capital. Falguni ventured into a completely different field, leaving 19 years with Kotak Mahindra as an investment banker and her 25-year career in the finance sector. Falguni’s business acumen can be gauged from the fact that the turnover of Nayika has increased from 15 crores in the last 2 years to 214 crores in the year 2017. The number of users has gone from 3 lakh to 25 million.
Falguni Nair’s idea of a heroine was further strengthened when she went to the showroom in New York, New York’s retail brand Sepora, during her stay abroad. Though Falguni was never a regular customer of cosmetics but still she decided to foray into this field. She took note of the feedback given by the customers and compiled them all. And soon their number of customers started increasing. People started getting products of their choice. Phalguni studied her customers’ attitude and shopping habits quite a lot. They understand their preferences and their preference by looking at their customers’ purchases.
Investors have a lot of confidence in this Falguni venture. She invested 25 lakh dollars in Sunil Munjal, Harsha Maliwal, Atul Nisar and TVS. Have raised from the capital. There are 350 brands and very large products available on Nayaka. Nayaka is also now working on her outlets. It is planned to do 30 by 2020. Nayaka has tied up with many big and international companies that will offer great products for Indian customers. Currently, her team consists of 350 people, 80 of whom are from IIT Delhi and Mumbai from the technical sector.
After completing her studies from Sidhanam College, when she went to IIM, Ahmedabad, she befriended Sanjay Mehta. In 1987, both marriages were arranged in formulas. Sanjay worked with Citigroup till 2009. Since 2009, he is the CEO of KKR. After Ratan Tata’s return to Tata Motors, Falguni Nair was inducted into the board of members of Tata Motors. With this, she is very much discussed and at the same time, she is also the only female member on the board.
