Amidst all this, the sports world has sent a strong message against this attack and is boycotting events and tournaments in Russia. The International Olympic Committee has urged events in Russia and Belarus to be canceled or planned in another country. Apart from this, the use of flags and national anthem of these countries has been asked to stop. The request comes after the European Football Associations (UEFA – the Union of European Football Associations) moved the Champions League final from St Petersburg to Paris and the skiing and Formula One governing body withdrew the race in Russia.

Russian players have also come forward in protest against the attack on Ukraine. Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev wrote “No War Please” in front of a TV camera during the final of the Dubai Championships. Meanwhile, world number one male tennis player Daniil Medvedev says that as a tennis player he wants to promote peace all over the world. Mednedev is a Russian player.

- The Football Association of Poland has said that Poland will not play a World Cup qualifying soccer match against Russia. Poland and football club Bayern Munich have supported this decision.
- Formula One has postponed this season’s Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. After talks with all the teams and the FIA (International Automobile Federation) governing body, it was decided that it was impossible to hold the Grand Prix at the Black Sea Resort in Sochi.
- UEFA has shifted the Champions League final from Saint Petersburg, Russia to Paris. The final of the European men’s football season will still be held on 28 May but now it will be in France after the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee.
