The Queen of Denmark has apologised to her household after stripping 4 of her grandchildren of their royal titles.
However, Queen Margrethe II stopped wanting reversing her determination to take away the titles of prince or princess from the youngsters of her second son, Prince Joachim.
In an announcement launched in English on the Danish royal household web site, the monarch stated she was “sorry” for the extent to which the choice had affected her son and his household.
Explaining her determination, Queen Margrethe wrote: “Holding a royal title involves a number of commitments and duties that, in the future, will lie with fewer members of the royal family. This adjustment, which I view as a necessary future-proofing of the monarchy, I want to take in my own time.
“I’ve made my determination as queen, mom and grandmother, however, as a mom and grandmother, I’ve underestimated the extent to which a lot my youthful son and his household really feel affected. That makes a giant impression, and for that I’m sorry.”
She went on to say that her grandchildren had been her “pride and joy” and hoped that the household might now “find the peace” to get by the state of affairs.
The determination which brought about the rift within the household was introduced on 28 September and affected her grandchildren Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and 10-year-old Princess Athena.
As of 1 January 2023, all 4 will stop to be styled as prince or princess, and cease being addressed as his/her royal highness.
