Pakistan on FATF Grey List Latest Decision: Pakistan on Friday said that it will implement the new action plan given by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in 12 months. The statement comes after Pakistan on the Gray List of FATF was retained in the ‘Grey List of FATF’ by the global organization that monitors money laundering activities and funding of terrorism. The FATF has taken this step because of Pakistan’s failure to curb money laundering.
It has asked Pakistan to prosecute commanders and senior leaders of UN-designated terrorist organizations including Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar (Pakistan Grey List Decision). FATF has also asked Pakistan to address strategically important deficiencies (Pakistan and Grey List). “The previous action plan was anti-terrorism and the new action plan would be anti-money laundering,” Geo TV quoted Federal Energy Minister Hammad Azhar as saying.
Many terrorists are present in Pakistan
The minister said that the government will implement the points mentioned in the anti-money laundering scheme in the next 12 months. Significantly, the UN-designated terrorists present in Pakistan include Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Saeed and its operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi (Pakistan Continues at Greylist of FATF). There is information that most of the people and institutions that have been included in the list of international terrorists by the United Nations are from Pakistan.
Loss to Pakistan due to being in the gray list
Pakistan has been fighting a lot for the last three years to get out of the gray list of FATF. This is because whenever a country is included in the gray list, the flow of investment there is affected (Pakistan Gray List Latest News). Due to which the economy of that country also suffers. The government of Pakistan says that due to being in the gray list, Pakistan is facing a loss of 10 billion dollars every year. Pakistan has recently approved laws like Counter Terror Financing (CTF) and Anti Money Laundering (AML) in an attempt to get out of the list.
