Permission for the license would include approval to possess wireless equipment, import of required modules and subsystems, and demonstration of R&D products.
5G Spectrum Trial
To promote India as a hub of wireless innovation, the government on Tuesday launched an online application. The name of this service is ‘Saral Sanchar Portal’. Through this, all approvals for conducting experiments and demonstrations and for using the airwaves can be obtained within six to eight weeks.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued a statement on Tuesday saying, “Application for service access, internet service and other licenses are taken from the existing Saral Sanchar portal of DoT. Now it can also be used for grants, receipts and processing of experiments, demonstrations, testing and manufacturing.
Once live, the portal will provide faceless permissions for equipment type approval, satellite license and amateur license. Till now all applications had to be manually approved by the Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing of the Department of Telecommunications. Department of Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash said the move was aimed at promoting an ecosystem of design and application in wireless technology as all the approvals can be bundled together.
Permission for the license would include approval to possess wireless equipment, import of required modules and subsystems, and demonstration of R&D products. An applicant has to file a self-declaration for immediate issuance of license for indoor use (R&D), indoor display and manufacturing.
Once approved, only one license will be granted which will include all previous licensing requirements for the use of spectrum, import of related products and sub-assemblies, display and possession of wireless equipment.
Approval will be given within 6 to 8 weeks for all outdoor radiating licenses and airwaves will be offered on “Non-Interference and Non-Protection Basis” and “No Commercial Service” which means at no charge to the Government have to give.
The government statement said that these measures will facilitate Indian companies to strengthen the R&D and manufacturing ecosystem and create Indian IPR and global solutions.
