Ukraine-Russia War: As the war between Ukraine and Russia intensifies, the Indian government is bringing back its citizens stranded in Ukraine. Air India is currently operating rescue flights to bring back the citizens. Meanwhile, the country’s largest airlines Indigo and SpiceJet have also joined Operation Ganga to bring back Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine.
IndiGo on Monday issued a statement saying that it will operate two flights to bring back Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine. According to the airline’s statement, at present, the company has decided to operate one flight each from Budapest (Hungary) and Bucharest (Romania). Both flights will operate via Istanbul.
An official said that both the aircraft will leave from Delhi on Monday and Tuesday. First these flights will go to Istanbul and then will reach Budapest in Hungary. In return, these planes will come to Delhi via Istanbul. IndiGo has said that the airline is in touch with the government to extend its support for more such flights.
SpiceJet has said that it will operate a special flight to the Hungarian capital Budapest on Friday to rescue Indians stranded in Ukraine due to Russian military attack. The airline said it will use its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for this special flight, which will depart from Delhi on Monday evening and return via Kutaisi, Georgia.

Let us tell you that after the Russian missile attacks, the Operation Ganga campaign is being run by the Indian government to rescue the Indians trapped in Ukraine. Till now only Air India flights were coming home with Indians stranded in Ukraine. But after Air India, now SpiceJet and Indigo flights will also help in evacuation of Indians from Ukraine.
Campaign to bring Indians continues
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Monday that the sixth flight under the ‘Operation Ganga’ campaign left Budapest to Delhi, carrying 240 Indian nationals, to bring back the people of India stranded in Ukraine. Due to the closure of Ukraine’s airspace, India is evacuating its citizens from there through its (Ukraine’s) border posts with Romania, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
On Monday, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine advised students to reach the railway station in the capital Kyiv so that they can travel further to the western parts of the war-torn country. Jaishankar tweeted that the sixth Operation Ganga flight from Budapest. 240 Indian nationals leave for Delhi.
Meanwhile, Air India’s fifth evacuation flight carrying 249 Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine from Romanian capital Bucharest reached Delhi on Monday morning. The first flight carrying 219 Indian nationals reached Mumbai from Bucharest on Saturday evening. The second flight carrying 250 citizens reached Delhi in the early hours of Sunday.
Air India’s third flight carrying around 240 Indian nationals has left from Budapest, the capital of Hungary for Delhi. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv said that the weekend curfew has been lifted in the Ukrainian capital and Indian students can go to the railway station to leave the city.
4 ministers will go to help the students
Now the Modi government has made a new strategy to bring back the stranded Indians in Ukraine. In a bid to intensify efforts to evacuate Indian students stranded in war-torn Ukraine, the Center on Monday decided that Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and V.K. Singh will travel to neighboring countries of Ukraine to coordinate the evacuation operation and help the students.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan interacted with the parents of Indian students stranded in the UK and assured them that the government is doing everything possible to bring the students back safely. Muraleedharan tweeted that parents of students stranded in Ukraine are being contacted. It is assured that the government is making every effort to bring the students safe.
