Mumbai: The Thane Collector of Sameer Wankhede canceled the bar license on Tuesday. According to reports, his hotel is Sadhguru Hotel and Bar in Navi Mumbai. The license was canceled on the ground that the former Regional Director of NCB Mumbai had misrepresented his age in the license application filed in 1997.
According to the Times of India report, the license of that hotel was canceled after hearing Thane’s Excise Commissioner and Wankhede’s lawyer. Wine, light liquor, spirits and fermented liquor were allowed to be sold in hotels and bars. The collector imposed section 54 of the Prohibition of Alcohol Act on cancellation of the bar license.

Actually, this whole matter came to the fore when NCP leader and minister in Maharashtra government Nawab Malik, who was regularly running with Wankhede, raised the matter. Malik had questioned whether a member of the All India Services could conduct his own business and how Wankhede had obtained a licence. It is said that when he was granted the permit, he was young. However, Wankhede had then admitted that he had obtained the license long before he joined the IRS.
