Users of Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Messenger platforms are experiencing login points in what seems to be a widespread outage, in line with the Associated Press (AP).
According to DownDetector, lots of of 1000’s of experiences are coming in of an outage.
London-based web monitoring agency Netblocks stated on X that 4 Meta platforms — Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads — have been “currently experiencing outages related to login sessions in multiple countries.” But the agency, which advocates for web freedom, stated there was no signal of “country-level internet disruptions or filtering,” that are usually imposed by governments.
Some customers reported they have been locked out of their Facebook accounts and have been unable to get again in. Others stated they have been experiencing difficultly refreshing their Threads and Instagram feeds. Meanwhile, WhatsApp, which can be owned by Meta, didn’t look like experiencing issues early Tuesday, in line with AP.
Andy Stone, Meta’s head communications, acknowledged the problems on X, previously referred to as Twitter, and stated the corporate is “working on this now.”
Cybersecurity skilled Matthew Green stated the outage seems to transcend Meta.
“There are a number of services having trouble with at least parts of their systems, particularly the ability to log into websites,” stated Green, an affiliate professor of laptop science and member of the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute. “This may indicate a common cause, like a failure at a major cloud services provider. At the moment nobody knows exactly what’s happening.”
