Pimpri: The residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad have got a big relief in the backdrop of the upcoming municipal elections. It has been decided not to increase any tax in the new financial year 2022-23. By keeping the property tax rates ‘as is’, the city residents have been given a big gift of the election year. In this regard, it was decided in the general meeting of the Municipal Corporation held online. Mayor Usha Dhore presided over this meeting. Significantly, in view of the general elections to the Municipal Corporation, the ruling BJP has adopted the role of avoiding tax hike for the second consecutive year.
Municipal elections are expected to be held in March 2022. The preparations for the elections are in full swing and the formation of wards is in the final stages. Due to this, political developments have increased in the city. The election year is proving to be a big relief for the people of the city and there will be no tax hike or price hike in the coming financial year.

For the financial year 2022-23, it is necessary to fix the tax rates before 20 February 2022. Accordingly, a proposal to keep the tax rates unchanged for the financial year 2022-23 was introduced under Section 99 of the Maharashtra Municipal Act. Since the ward delimitation is getting delayed, it is certain that elections will not be held on the scheduled time in February. Nevertheless, it is believed that elections will be held in March. Against this background, it has been decided not to increase property or other taxes or their rates.

At present 5 lakh 61 thousand properties are registered with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. This includes commercial, residential, composite properties. The current taxable value rates are 13 per cent for residential properties ranging from Rs 12,000 to Rs 12,000, 16 per cent for Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000 and 24 per cent for valuation of Rs 30,000 and above. The same rates have been retained in the coming financial year as well. Along with this, cleaning tax, fire tax, education tax, tree tax, sewage facility tax, water supply benefit tax, road tax have been kept the same. There was no increase in entertainment tax. Non-residential taxes are also kept ‘as is’. Normal tax relief schemes have been retained. Along with this, the charges for withdrawal of property, transfer notice, administrative service, non-payment of dues will remain the same. This decision will come into effect from April.
