Fuel prices have crossed all limits this year. Retail sale of petrol and diesel above Rs 100 per liter is being done in select states. Meanwhile, the economical option that is emerging now is to use CNG as fuel or switch to an electric powertrain.
While there are many challenges for customers to switch to an electric vehicle, using CNJ fuel can be a good option for those who want to travel more kilometers with a single unit of fuel. There are already a lot of CNG equipped cars available for sale in the Indian market but a lot more is yet to come. Here is a list of 5 upcoming CNG cars that will soon be available for sale in our market.
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG
Celerio is ready to be updated to the new generation. It will come with a new design and is likely to look a lot sharper than the current-gen model. Probably, the company will retain its power plant, which may also come with CNG as an option. The current-gen model is rated to deliver a mileage of 31 km/kg with CNG as fuel. It is expected that the new-gen model will get more mileage.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG
India’s largest carmaker has the best CNG kit ever. Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG technology is very reliable and very good. In fact, it is extremely economical. After staying away from diesel power plants, the brand is now launching a CNG operated variant of the DZire, starting this festive season.
Tata Tiago CNG
Tata Motors is preparing a CNG variant of the Tiago. Its testing unit was recently seen on trial with ARAI. The power plant under the hood will be a 1.2L Revotron unit but the CNG-powered Tiago is expected to be more affordable. It is expected to launch around Diwali.
Tata Tigor CNG
The domestic carmaker is also planning to launch a bi-fuel iteration of its sub-4 meter compact sedan, the Tigor. It will continue to be driven through the 86 PS 1.2L petrol motor but will be more economical than its petrol counterpart. Talking about its launch timeline, it is likely to reach the showroom floor by the festive season this year.
Ford Aspire CNG
Ford is currently going through a rough patch in the Indian market and the Aspire CNG could be a powerful product right now as the Hyundai Aura is the only car in its segment to come with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Earlier, Ford sold the Aspire CNG in the Indian market but later discontinued it. However, now the CNG trim of the Ford Aspire was recently spied for testing and may soon make its way to the showrooms.
