Coelacanth Extinct Fossil Fish Found Alive: A fossil fish of dinosaur time has been found alive on the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Earlier it was believed that this species of fish has become extinct (Fish Predates Dinosaur). The name of this species of fish is Coelacanth. According to media reports, when a group of South African shark-catching hunters landed in the sea to hunt, they got these fish. Which all of them were surprised to see. This fish has four legs and this species is 42 million years old.
According to the report, the hunters had put a huge net in the sea to get shark’s wings and oil, when the fish suddenly got trapped in the trap. This is a kind of high-tech trap, which can go deep into the sea. That is, to the depth where the Coelacanths fishes live, that is, down to 328-492 feet. This fish was considered extinct till 1938, but now scientists are surprised by its being caught alive. This is the first time since 1938 that the fish has been seen alive.
There are special stripes on the body
The fish has eight wings, huge body, on which special stripes are made. Now marine scientists say that measures should be taken to conserve these fish. It is also being said that fish has also been found because the demand for shark oil and feathers has increased in recent times (Fish Found Alive in Madagascar). Due to this demand hunters are using Jilnet. Which can go deeper into the water than normal fishing nets. The South African Journal of Science has conducted a research, which states that Coelacanths are threatening the survival of fishes due to the increasing hunting of sharks.
Fish hunting can increase
The lead author of the research, Andrew Cook, says that even though there is no protection for this big fish in Madagascar, it is present here. But they also fear that the use of jilnet may increase the prey of this fish (Coelacanth Extinct Fossil Fish Discovered). One researcher wrote in the paper, ‘The use of Jarifa jilnet to catch sharks is a new and more dangerous invention because they are much larger in size. These nets can go deeper into the water.
