The Princess of Wales has warned the disgrace of habit is stopping many individuals getting assist – and informed victims “recovery is possible”.
Kate, patron of habit restoration charity The Forward Trust, mentioned habit is “a serious health condition” and “not a choice”.
Her message of help for the Taking Action on Addiction marketing campaign comes on the primary day of Addiction Awareness Week.
She mentioned: “Addiction is a serious mental health condition that can happen to anyone, no matter what age, gender, race or nationality.
“Attitudes to habit are altering. But we aren’t there but, and we must be. Still the disgrace of habit is stopping individuals and households asking for assist and individuals are nonetheless tragically shedding their lives.
“And so today, during Addiction Awareness Week, I want to share a message of support to those who are continuing to suffer.
“Please know that habit is just not a selection. No one chooses to develop into an addict.
“The charities leading the Taking Action on Addiction Campaign, along with others, are working across the country delivering life changing work to help people recover and move forward.
“They are right here for you. So please ask for assist. I do know this was not a selection. Recovery is feasible.”
