Police have raided three funeral properties throughout Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire following a report over “concern for care of the deceased”.
There are at the moment police cordons in place and officers in attendance on the three places being investigated, Humberside Police have stated.
The report was acquired on Wednesday night in relation to Legacy Independent Funeral Directors.
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Gawthorpe stated: “Whilst we are in the very early stages of our investigation, I completely understand this information will be of concern to a number of families and individuals who have lost loved ones and have utilised the services of this business.
“We have already been involved with quite a few folks as a part of our investigation and are working intently with His Majesty’s Coroner, Hull City Council and East Riding Council to determine the info.”
Asking folks to “refrain from speculation” about what could have occurred, DCS Gawthorpe stated: “At the core of this investigation will potentially be heartbroken and devastated families and loved ones.”
