New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday discussed the crisis arising out of Russia’s attack on Ukraine with several European leaders and expressed concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine and its deteriorating humanitarian situation. . According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi reiterated India’s call for an end to the war in Ukraine and a return to dialogue and diplomacy during the phone calls with these leaders.
Modi held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish President Andrzej Duda and European Council President Charles Michel after Russian forces stepped up attacks on Ukraine. An Indian student died on Tuesday during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to the PMO, during the discussion with Macron, Modi emphasized that India believes that respect for international law, the United Nations Charter and the territorial unity and integrity of all countries strengthens the contemporary world order. The Prime Minister welcomed the talks between Russia and Ukraine and stressed on ensuring free and unhindered humanitarian access as well as facilitating the movement of people.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi also apprised President Macron of India’s efforts to evacuate its citizens from the war-affected area and send necessary relief materials along with medicines for the affected people there. According to the PMO, Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Polish President Andrzej Duda and thanked him for helping to evacuate Indian nationals from Ukraine. During the discussion with Duda, the Prime Minister also thanked him for easing the visa requirement for entering Poland from Ukraine.
According to the PMO, the Prime Minister especially appreciated the citizens of Poland for providing all possible help to Indian citizens in this difficult time. Referring to the traditional friendly relations between the two countries, Modi said he still remembers how Poland helped during the 2001 Gujarat earthquake.
According to the PMO, during this time he also remembered the role of the Maharaja of Jamnagar in saving many families and orphaned children of Poland during the Second World War. Modi told Duda that Union Minister VK Singh would supervise the operation in Poland till the Indian nationals were evacuated from Ukraine.

It is to be known that the war between Russia and Ukraine continued for the sixth day on Tuesday. Russian troops are bombarding several cities in Ukraine. Russia is trying to surround the capital Kyiv. In the same sequence, Russia launched attacks targeting Kyiv’s TV tower and other civilian sites, including the main memorial of the Jewish genocide in Ukraine. Five people were killed and five others were injured in the attacks on the TV tower. (agency)
