On the question of hacking, the company said that there is no evidence for this. Such allegations are made, NSO has termed the media reports as an international conspiracy.
NSO manufactures Israel’s Pegasus spyware (symbolic photo)
NSO Group, a private Israeli cyber security firm, spoke to news agency ANI after the media report was released by news outlets on July 17. The report has accused many countries of digitally spying on their citizens. India is also included in the list of these countries and according to media reports, journalists, government officials, opposition and other personalities were targeted by ‘spyware’ attacks using NSO Group’s software ‘Pegasus’.
Talking to ANI, the NSO Group termed it an ‘international conspiracy’. The news agency asked the Israeli group whether the Pegasus software was bought by the Indian government or any other entity affiliated to the Indian government. The company said that it cannot reveal the identity of any customer. The list of products to which the company sells is kept confidential. The company said that it cannot talk about any particular customer but the list of countries published in the report is completely wrong, ‘some of them are not even our customers’.
‘We have no phone number, no data’
He said the group only sells its products to governments and government law enforcement and intelligence organizations. All UN ‘principles’ are followed before and after sale. The group does not abuse any international system. ANI asked that if so, how did the company get Indian phone numbers in its system? The company said that we have neither the numbers nor the data. He said that we do not have any server or computer where the data of our customers is stored.
allegations have already been made
According to media reports, after examining the phone affected by Pegasus, it was found that an attempt was made to infiltrate it through software. When the news agency asked the company about this, the NSO said, ‘Where is the evidence for this? Such allegations keep on being made. We were contacted saying that 50,000 Pegasus targets were seen. This is bullshit. We sell licences, we know it is impossible.’
NSO makes life-saving technology
When ANI asked about the phone numbers, the company said, ‘It is believed that some service like HLR Lookup has been used which is free of cost. All data including name, number, roaming, location can be easily accessed using this and if the reports are saying 50,000 then it will be any other list like vaccination. We are the first cyber company to comply with all human rights guidelines, we have only trusted customers. We are the only cyber intelligence company that has so many firewalls. The NSO group develops technologies that save lives.
Mostly Customers Western Democracy
ANI asked that India is the only democratic country in the published list of countries affected by Pegasus, this is shocking to all. NSO replied, ‘Most of our customers are Western democracies.’ The news agency asked whether NSO’s competitors did this? To this the company replied that it is an international conspiracy. The whole idea of Pegasus is to fight terror and crime and those who buy these services are fighting a war against terrorism. The group said that law agencies have no other way of fighting terror other than using credible technology like ours.
