Sergei Surovikin, nicknamed “General Armageddon”, has been faraway from his function as head of Russia’s warfare in Ukraine solely three months into the job.

Mr Surovikin was put in general cost of the Ukraine operations final October. He will keep on as Mr Gerasimov’s deputy.
The defence ministry mentioned the adjustments have been designed to extend the effectiveness of army operations in Ukraine and “the need to organise closer interaction between the types and arms of the troops”.
Reputed for ruthlessness and brutality, Mr Surovikin is a army veteran who served within the Soviet Union’s finally doomed warfare in Afghanistan throughout the Eighties.
