Dominic Raab has requested an investigation into himself following two formal complaints made towards him after days of bullying allegations.
The deputy prime minister and justice secretary has written a letter to Rishi Sunak asking for an unbiased investigation into the complaints, one concerning his time as overseas secretary and one other whereas he was justice secretary underneath Boris Johnson.
“I look forward to addressing these complaints, and continuing to serve as deputy prime minister, justice secretary, and Lord Chancellor,” he tweeted.
Mr Raab will face MPs at noon as he’s taking Prime Minister’s Questions on behalf of Mr Sunak, who’s in Bali for the G20 summit.
Over the previous week, Mr Raab has confronted bullying allegations within the media, together with throwing tomatoes at employees, being impolite to employees and being warned about his behaviour.
In his letter to Mr Sunak, the deputy PM mentioned he had “just been notified that two separate complaints have formally been made against me”.
He didn’t say what the complaints have been about and who had made them.
But he requested an investigation into the complaints “as soon as possible” and mentioned he’ll “cooperate fully and respect whatever outcome you decide”.
He added: “I’ve at all times sought to set excessive requirements, and forge groups that may ship for the British individuals admidst the acute challenges that we have now confronted in recent times.
“I have never tolerated bullying, and always sought to reinforce and empower the teams of civil servants working in my respective departments.”
It shouldn’t be identified who will head up the investigation into Mr Raab as there’s at the moment no ethics adviser after Lord Geidt stop in June.
Mr Sunak’s official spokesman mentioned yesterday the PM is “committed” to putting in a alternative and the “process is ongoing to appoint a new adviser”.
