But, within the newest version of the Sky News Ukraine War Diaries podcast, Koshel confronts the price of these beneficial properties following the lack of one other frontline comrade who was a part of latest advances.
“I was talking to my friend who is now an officer in the army,” he explains. “And he was fairly disenchanted as a result of a man from his unit, who was below his command, has simply been killed.
“And my friend must go with his body to his home village for his funeral and it’s very tough for him, especially [because] it’s [his] first time. And I hope it will be first and last time but we don’t know.”
On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that Kyiv’s forces had recaptured greater than 500 sq. kilometres and dozens of settlements in Kherson.
The advance comes towards the backdrop of nuclear threats made by Russian President Vladimir Putin and warnings from US President Joe Biden that the battle dangers the specter of “nuclear Armageddon”.
“The war has become routine,” says Koshel. “We do what we do. First time when a man I knew was killed, it was fairly a shock and it was a extremely large drama, and now, you simply know, you simply perceive that: ‘okay, he isn’t with us anymore.’
“I mean it is not ok… but I just get used to that because I have quite a few of them, whom I knew and who are not with us anymore.”
He added: “We are carefully reading the news from the country who occupy us and as you know Putin has declared annexation of four of our regions.
“And truly for us, it modifications nothing as a result of we’ve to combat and de-occupy – we do not care in any respect.”
