The common compensation payout made by the MoD for a majority of these claims reached £235,564 in 2022/23.

“Ministers should lead from the highest to root out unacceptable behaviour within the MoD and the armed forces. Labour in authorities will legislate to determine an Armed Forces Commissioner to behave as a powerful impartial voice to enhance the lives of serving personnel and their households.”
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said: “We don’t tolerate abuse, bullying or discrimination of any variety, which is why we now have launched many modifications to enhance the expertise for everybody throughout defence, together with enhancements to reporting mechanisms, variety and inclusion coaching, and elevated entry to assist.

“We actively encourage any personnel who believe they have experienced or witnessed unacceptable behaviour to report it.
“All allegations of unacceptable behaviour are taken extraordinarily severely and are completely investigated. If confirmed, swift motion can be taken.”
