About 6,000 terrorists of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are active in Afghanistan. They are carrying out the terrorist campaign by making links with the Taliban. This has been warned in a report prepared for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). According to the report prepared by the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, TTP is a terrorist organization with an anti-Pakistan purpose. But it also supports Taliban terrorists against Afghan forces inside Afghanistan.
The UN report states that the TTP has traditionally been present near the Pakistan border in the eastern districts of Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. From December 2019 to August 2020, several terror groups including the Shahryar Mehsud group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) and Hizb-ul-Ahrar joined the TTP. At the same time, the dreaded terrorist organization Al-Qaeda allegedly worked to strike a balance between these terrorist groups. It has been said in the report that with the coming together of these terrorist groups, its strength has increased manifold. In this way, the number of fighters of the terrorist organization has increased from 2500 to 6000.
There have been conflicts between Taliban and TTP
Citing information from UN member states and other interlocutors, the UN report said the Taliban’s approach to foreign terrorists has not been the same. The Taliban have tried to suppress such organizations. In particular, an attempt has been made to bow down to those terrorists, who have been inclined towards Islamic State and TTP. The report said that the efforts to suppress the terrorists have led to conflicts between the Taliban and the TTP. At times these conflicts have been quite fatal. However, the TTP has recently expressed support for the Taliban.
Foreign fighters are present in Afghanistan
The Taliban has been denying the presence of foreign terrorists in Afghanistan. But despite all this, the report says that fighters of different countries and terrorist groups are active in the country. Information about them being given protection by the Taliban has also been coming to the fore. Foreign terrorists mainly include fighters from Central Asia, the North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation, Pakistan and China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
