What is SMS Scrubbing: There were problems in the services of banks and e-commerce companies. Users are especially delayed in getting OTP. Due to this, not only are there problems in debit card transactions, but people are also facing problems for registration on the Co-WIN App. This is because telecom service providers have started implementing the second phase of SMS regulation. A new guideline has been implemented by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which deals with the process of SMS scrubbing.
What is SMS scrubbing?
The process of verification of every SMS content before sending it is called scrubbing. After its implementation, telecom operators blocked SMS messages without verification. However, after its implementation, the process of sending OTP for many payment services was interrupted. Banks started getting a lot of complaints from customers that they did not get OTP to transfer money. This affected customers across the country.
Why did TRAI implement a new rule?
According to TRAI, telemarketing companies nowadays do not follow the stated priority of the subscriber. She claims to have their consent, which can be taken with deceit. The regulator had said that the new regulations give the subscriber full control over their consent and also allows them to withdraw it. This will prevent the misuse of existing rules.
According to the report of Indian Express, telecom companies have said that telemarketing companies and businesses have to follow the norms set by TRAI. According to him, the blockchain system is used to verify the content of every SMS and block unregistered messages.
