Pune (Maharashtra): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday warned officials not to abuse their position and asked them to ensure that educational institutions function properly. He was speaking in the context of alleged irregularities in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Pawar was speaking at the inauguration of the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) here.
The Deputy Chief Minister referred to the recent arrest of Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSEC) commissioner Tukaram Supe in connection with alleged irregularities in TET and warned officials not to misuse their positions. He said that the state government would help in providing infrastructure to the institutions and organizations, but it was the responsibility of the officers to ensure their smooth functioning and improve them.

Pawar said, “I also said in the state assembly that those involved in irregularities will face action. No one has the right to play with the future of the students/candidates.” He said that MSFDA would improve the quality of education in the state. He requested the State Education Minister Uday Samant to visit the institute and modernize it at regular intervals.
On this occasion, Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray stressed on the importance of asking questions and said that asking questions has become a crime in the country. “In other countries research is done in schools and colleges whereas in India it is done in research institutes. There is a need to emphasize the spirit of inquiry in the new education system, through which students will ask questions. Asking questions has become a crime in our country, whether it is in the classroom or anywhere else.” (agency)
