Micro-blogging site Twitter has launched a new feature called Soft Block Tool, which will allow any user on the web to remove a follower without being blocked. To soft block a follower, go to your profile, click on Followers, click on the three-dot menu next to the follower, and then click on the ‘Remove’ this follower option. As reported by The Verge, the followers you removed will not be notified of this change.
This is different from blocking someone, which prevents them from seeing your Tweets and sending you Direct Messages (and preventing you from doing the same to them). Twitter’s new remote follower feature is a remote unfollow button, which is a great way to create some distance between you and anyone else on the micro-blogging platform. Previously, to unfollow someone without their knowledge, you could do a soft block, which is when you manually block and unblock someone.
Followers you delete will need to follow you again to see your Tweets on their timeline and if you have Secure Tweets (Personal Tweets, viewable only by your followers) they will need to follow you back. Your approval will be needed for this.
Twitter will soon bring warning tool
Twitter is testing a new feature on iOS and Android, which will warn users before making wrong posts and wrong conversations. According to the report of The Verge, a signal has been given in the ongoing conversation which says that such conversations can lead to controversy. If users try to respond to one of those in-depth conversations, Twitter will provide three bullet points to encourage fact-based conversations. The micro-blogging site’s support page reads, “We’re testing signals on Android and iOS to notify you that a conversation you’re about to enter may be taking hold.
Instagram has also recently introduced a similar tool called Limits, which enables users to temporarily ban unwanted conversations.
