Microsoft has taken this step because China has expanded the censorship on the Internet. The US company said in its blog post that it has decided to discontinue the local version of LinkedIn due to the more challenging operational environment in China and higher compliance requirements.
Instead, Microsoft will now launch a new job portal in China, which will not have some of the features of LinkedIn. Let us tell you that LinkedIn was first operated from the US, after that its Chinese local version was introduced, which is now being shut down.
LinkedIn blocked the profiles of several American journalists in China. Behind which the company cited ‘prohibited material’. Apart from this, LinkedIn has also blocked the profiles of academicians and researchers in China. Let us tell you that China has always been targeting big tech companies, due to which Facebook and Google have almost a presence in this country.
Microsoft has said in its blogpost that the company will launch InJobs, a new job application site. It will not have a social feed, which means that users will not be able to share posts and articles. According to data from research firm Statista, China is LinkedIn’s third largest market. In July, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reported that LinkedIn contributes about $10 billion in annual revenue. The company acquired LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in 2016.
