The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has informed that the number of active subscribers of the telecom company Bharti Airtel has increased by 6.9 million in January. In this way Airtel has reached the top in the market. At the same time, the number of active connections of Reliance Jio has decreased by 34 lakhs.
ICICI Securities, quoting the January consumer data released by TRAI, said that in this way the number of active customers of Bharti Airtel has reached 336 million.
According to the UBS report, the number of visitor location register (active) customers of Bharti Airtel and Jio was almost equal in recent months. But in January, the number of Visitor Location Register (VLR) connections of Bharti Airtel increased by 6.9 million to 33.6 crore. At the same time, the number of connections of Jio decreased from 34 lakh to 32.5 crore.
Jio Co’s customers increased by 32 lakhs in December
JM Financial’s note states that earlier in December, the number of active connections of Jio had increased by 3.2 million. The number of customers of the company increased by 54 lakhs in November.
Let us tell you that active customers are calculated through the visitor location register (VLR). It is a system of communicating about customers operating on a mobile network.
Jio on top in terms of overall users
It is pertinent to state here that Reliance Jio remains the largest telecom operator in the country with a subscriber base of 410.7 million, while Bharti Airtel is second with 344.6 million users as of January 2021. At the same time, according to TRAI data, after adding 1.7 million new customers, Vodafone Idea has a total of 285.9 million customers.
Number of MNPs increased
One thing has also come up in this report of TRAI regarding Mobile Number Portability (MNP). According to the report, 76.3 lakh people have applied for MNP in January, which can be inferred that people are not happy with the service of their telecom company. TRAI said that the number of broadband users has increased to 75.76 crores in January from 74.74 crores in December.
