The US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s announcement also states that Fitbit will refund the smartwatch owner $299 (approximately Rs 22,700) due to the recall. Apart from this, it will also offer customers up to 40 percent discount on select Fitbit devices.
US commission said Fitbit received 174 reports of overheating. Of these, 118 were reported burn injuries, with two cases of third degree burns and four cases of second degree burns.
In an emailed statement to Gadgets 360, Fitbit said, “The US regulator’s announcement refers to 0.01 percent of the total Fitbit Ionic units sold. Those whose batteries were overheating.”
The company said that the smartwatch recall will not affect Fitbit’s other smartwatches or trackers. In 2020, Fitbit stopped production of the Ionic. The smartwatch was launched in January 2018 for Rs 22,990.

Only a limited four variants of the smartwatch have been recalled with model numbers FB503CPBU, FB503GYBK, FB503WTGY, and FB503WTNV.
Refund-eligible customers in the US can initiate the refund process by calling the Fitbit helpline at 888-925-1764 or visiting the Help section of the company’s website. The Fitbit community forum reveals that the Ionic Watch started experiencing overheating issues since its launch in 2017. “Today my Fitbit Ionic burned my wrist. I felt like something was pricking my wrist,” wrote a user affected by the overheating issue in a forum post.
