Mumbai/Panaji: Cordelia cruise ship reached Mumbai coast from Goa on Tuesday evening, in which 66 of the nearly 2000 people on board have been infected with the corona virus. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gave this information.
Before the ship reached Mumbai, the BMC had said that those found infected on the ship would be kept in isolation on arrival here from Goa, while others would be subjected to RT-PCR tests before disembarking. The civic body said that those passengers or crew members will be allowed to disembark from the ship only after the COVID-19 test report comes negative, but they will have to stay in home isolation for a week.
Passengers who test positive will be kept under isolation onboard Cordelia ship, their samples will be sent for genome sequencing. Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Monday that 66 people out of more than 2,000 people on board the cruise ship have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Ambulances will be sent to shift the infected passengers to the colossal COVID-19 patient care center at Byculla in central Mumbai, the official said, adding that they will also be given the option of staying in hotels at their own expense. He said that other passengers will have to remain in the ship till the test report comes. The official said that the passengers will be screened at two laboratories and the report is expected by 9 am on Wednesday.
