In 2020, the Indian government banned several apps developed by Chinese firms, including TikTok. At that time, concerns were raised that these apps were involved in activities that could threaten the national security and defense of the country.
Last month, Nikhil Gandhi, the India head of TikTok, the short video-sharing platform owned by China’s ByteDance, decided to step down. TikTok included Gandhi as its India chief in 2019 to drive the next phase of development of the Chinese short video-sharing platform. TikTok’s recommendation algorithm is a big part of what has made it so popular.
According to the report that surfaced on Sunday, BytePlus gives customers access to TikTok recommendation algorithms, and ‘personalize it for their app and customers.’ BytePlus also offers data analysis tools, along with automatic speech and text translation and real-time video effects, according to its website.
The company said in a recent blog post that its ‘For You’ feed determines which videos to serve to a given user. Recommendations are based on user interactions, including which videos you like, comment on, share, or create, video information, and device and account settings, including what device you’re using, language preferences, and Location setting included. The source code and user data of TikTok is kept separate from other businesses of its parent company ByteDance.
