According to a news agency, a total of 74 unique photographs of NASA were included in this auction. These included 26 photographs taken on the Moon during the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 1970s. Brun Rasmussen Auction House told a news agency that they sold 73 of the 74 photos.
Brun Rasmussen was approached by a foreign collector. He wanted to sell the pictures without revealing his identity. He estimated the collection to be around EUR 190,000 (Rs 1 crore 59 lakh 60 thousand 100). Each photograph was auctioned individually.
The most valuable photograph in the auction was ‘Earthrise’. It was drawn in December 1968 by American astronaut William Anders while orbiting the Moon on Apollo 8. The picture was sold for 11,800 euros (approximately Rs 9,93,000).
The collection also included photographs from the Apollo 13 mission. The mission could not land on the Moon due to a fault. Many photos appeared for the first time in the auction. Earlier these pictures were in the archives of NASA. Some of the pictures have appeared on the cover pages of American magazines such as National Geographic and Life. All these photographs show how much man had achieved in the 1960s and 1970s.
Humans last stepped on the Moon in 1972 during the Apollo 17 mission. Now again NASA is planning to send astronauts to the moon in 2025-2026. It will start with the Artemis 1 mission. At present, this mission has been delayed from its scheduled date.
