Shreyas Iyer played a tremendous innings of 80 runs in the third and last match of the 3-match ODI series between India and West Indies (West Indies vs India ODI Series, 2022). Thanks to his important innings, Team India’s score reached a respectable position and scored 265 runs.
The history of international one-day cricket tells that this was the 26th match of Shreyas Iyer’s career. He has scored 50 or more runs for the 10th time in the batting of the 24th innings of a total of 26 matches played so far. It is worth noting that after the first 24 innings, former Indian captain and veteran batsman Virat Kohli also did this 10 times.
Talking about the last match of the series on Friday, 11 February, Virat Kohli was let out without opening an account. In all three matches of this ODI series against West Indies, his bat did not show heat. His bat looked silent. Remind you that for the first time after the series against Bangladesh in June 2015 (Bangladesh vs India ODI Series, 2015), when Virat Kohli batted 50 or more times in an ODI series. The run didn’t come out.

Virat beats Sehwag, his name became a shameful record
In this latest ODI series against West Indies, Virat Kohli scored just 26 runs in 3 matches at an average of 8.67. 8 runs in the first match and 18 runs in the second were scored off his bat and both were dismissed. And, in the final match of the series (WI vs IND 3rd ODI, 2022), he got an embarrassing record as he was dismissed for zero. In this case, he overtook Virender Sehwag, the former explosive batsman of the Indian team.

Records show that Virat Kohli has become the second batsman to be dismissed for the most number of times without opening an account among Indian batsmen who have batted from number 1 to number 7 in the batting order. This was the 32nd duck in Virat’s international career. Virender Sehwag got out for a duck, i.e. zero, 31 times in his international ODI career. In this case, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is called the ‘Lord of Cricket’, is at the first position.
Shreyas hits 9th ODI half century
Shreyas Iyer scored 80 runs in the last match of the 3-match ODI series played against West Indies at the ‘Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium’ in Ahmedabad. He handled the crumbling condition of Team India, which had lost 3 wickets for 42 runs and played a big role in taking the team’s score to 265. He shared a great partnership of 110 runs for the fourth wicket with Rishabh Pant (56 runs). Significantly, after being COVID positive before this ODI series and recovering from it, he returned to the team in place of Deepak Hooda in the last match of the series.
