Earlier it was to be held from January 13 but it was postponed due to the third wave of Corona epidemic.
New Delhi, BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Friday said that the postponed Ranji Trophy will be played in two phases from next month. Last year the tournament was not organized due to the Corona epidemic. The 38-team tournament is understood to begin in the second week of February and the first phase will last for a month. Earlier it was to be held from January 13 but it was postponed due to the third wave of Corona epidemic.
Shah said in a statement, “The board has decided to organize the Ranji Trophy in two phases. The league level matches will be held in the first phase and the knockouts will be played in June. “My team is making full preparations to deal with any health risks due to the pandemic,” he said.

Shah said that the BCCI understands the importance of Ranji Trophy. “Ranji Trophy is our most prestigious domestic competition, which brings many talented players to Indian cricket every year. It is imperative that all necessary measures are taken to safeguard the interests of this major tournament.”
A day earlier, the board’s treasurer Arun Dhumal had said that the board wants to organize the tournament this year, with the Indian Premier League also starting from March 27, due to which the Ranji Trophy will be held in two phases. (agency)
