There is little doubt who’s internet hosting the Independent School League sport of the week.
St. Sebastian’s will make the 38-mile journey to Groton on Friday (6 p.m.) in hopes of taking down Lawrence Academy and remaining the one undefeated group within the ISL-7.
While many figured Lawrence Academy (4-0) could be within the hunt for the ISL-7 title, St. Sebastian’s (4-0) was a little bit of an afterthought in August. That opinion shifted when the Arrows opened the season with a win over Governor’s Academy, one which carries extra clout because the Governors rebounded with wins over Milton Academy and BB&N.
“We felt all along that we had a good senior group, one of some highly talented players,” mentioned St. Sebastian’s coach Dan Burke. “They have been bolstered by a powerful group of youthful gamers, which has given us depth in some positions. We’ve been in a position to roll guys out and in and keep recent.
“We know we have the heart of the schedule in front of us, but we feel that we’ve got a good squad.”
One of these groups on the schedule Burke alluded to is Lawrence Academy. The Spartans have gained all 4 of their video games by a minimum of 19 factors, together with an easier-than-expected 40-18 win over Milton Academy.
“I think for us it started in the summer,” mentioned Lawrence Academy coach Jason Swepson. “We had a lot of new faces joining the Spartan community and we were able to build some togetherness with the summer programs, the 7-on-7s, volunteer workouts.”
One of these new faces was quarterback Michael Landolfi. A switch from Hanover, the place he earned All-Scholastic honors, Landolfi has engineered an offense which is averaging greater than 30 factors a sport.
“Michael bonded with everyone right from the get-go,” Swepson mentioned. “He met some of his new teammates and they just bonded very quickly.”
As good as St. Sebastian’s has been to this point, Burke is aware of his group must take it one other stage to knock off Lawrence Academy.
“There is no doubt that we really have to play our best game,” Burke mentioned. “Lawrence Academy doesn’t have many weaknesses. They are big, physical, can run and pass. Our defense has played tough against everyone and we’re going to have to do it again.”
St. Sebastian’s-Lawrence Academy isn’t the one huge sport within the ISL. Brooks (3-1) travels to Rivers to face the one undefeated group within the ISL-9. The Red Wings remained good because of a wild 38-32 additional time win over Belmont Hill.
Central Catholic coach Chuck Adamopoulos will look to grow to be the 57th coach in state historical past to win 200 video games Friday when his Raiders host Haverhill. Another MVC group, Chelmsford, faces a powerful nonleague problem from Westford Academy.
Some key league matchups pit Bishop Fenwick at Bishop Feehan, Hingham at Duxbury, Wakefield at Watertown, and Hopkinton at Westwood.
