ATTLEBORO — You actually can’t perceive what Nick Yanchuk brings to the Bishop Feehan offense till you decide aside the Bishop Fenwick recreation from a number of weeks in the past.
With Feehan observing a 3-3 report — after beginning the season 0-3 — the Fenwick recreation was one the Shamrocks completely needed to win in an effort to make the postseason.
Down 3-0 within the fourth quarter, Feehan had the ball at its personal 2-yard line. The Shamrocks wanted a drive, so coach Bryan Pinabell elected to offer the ball to his senior working again.
The first carry was 6 yards. The one after that, 11. After an offside name on Fenwick, Pinabell went proper again to him once more, and Yanchuk responded with 36. Now on the Fenwick 40, did the Shamrocks begin passing, or go to somebody who may be slightly extra contemporary?
No. Yanchuk once more, and he burst by means of for a 40-yard landing. Feehan went on to win, 20-3, and Yanchuk rushed for 222 yards on 26 carries.
Since that second, Feehan has been on fireplace. Yanchuk had two 300-plus-yard video games because the Shamrocks — the No. 14 seed in Div. 2 — have earned wins over Peabody and Reading to earn a Final Four berth in opposition to King Philip.
Without exhibiting final confidence in his workhorse again, Pinabell is aware of Feehan may not be right here.
“I think anytime you’re in an I-based offense, you need that back you can feed the ball to,” Pinabell stated. “We do have a very experienced offensive line. A lot of them are three-year starters. They’ve literally grown up together. I think you have to have that, too. If you don’t have the blocking, and you’ve got a great back, and you play great teams, like Reading and Peabody were, they’re going to stop that kid. … I think (Yanchuk’s) the best back in the state. I think the numbers speak for themselves. I also think it’s a combination with our offensive line that has done a great job, as well.”
Yanchuk is fast to credit score his offensive line, too.
“Coach has a lot of confidence in us,” Yanchuk stated. “We have a game plan. We usually follow through with it. (The offensive line) can move people and I just run behind them. We can pretty much do what we put our minds to if we really believe in it. Great trust and belief is what we’ve been preaching on the last couple weeks. We believe in the process that we can move people. We move the ball. Once we do that, we do it.”
That offensive line is made up of Case Mankins, Tristen Upton, Sean Finucane, Jake Gosselin, and Eddie CInelli. Tight finish Sean Judge and fullback Dante Bruschi even have an enormous hand in Yanchuk’s success. And there was a variety of that this season. Despite lacking two video games with a PCL harm in his knee, Yanchuk has rushed for about 1,700 yards to go together with 25 touchdowns.
And as Fenwick, Peabody, and Reading can attest, Yanchuk has been at his finest in opposition to probably the most heralded opponents.
While Yanchuk’s harm could have contributed to the workforce’s gradual begin, he stated it was one thing totally different.
“Hyping each other up too soon,” Yanchuk stated of the early struggles. “We were too excited. I feel like, now that we’re getting further out in the season, we didn’t quite know who we are earlier in the season. We didn’t know who we were. We’re starting to know who we are now. Just figuring out who we are and our identity started to click in these later weeks.”
That identification has lots to do with Yanchuk, who has been on as a lot of a roll recently as any participant within the state, no matter place.
“I kind of have the same mindset: Just run the ball,” Yanchuk stated. “My teammates, the trust goes either way. When I get the ball, they trust me to run it. When I get the ball, I run as hard as I can. I know, now that I’m with my coaches, I can’t let them down. I can’t let my teammates down. I try my best, and I go out there and give all my effort.”
