World’s Longest Expressway: The world’s largest expressway between Delhi and Mumbai can open for the general public by March 2023. Through this 1380 km long eight-lane expressway, the distance between some cities will be reduced and the distance which used to cover 24 hours earlier, can be covered in just 12-12.5 hours. This will be the first expressway in Asia and the second in the world where wildlife movement will continue without any restrictions.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari finished the two-day review of this expressway on Friday. During this, he visited Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to take stock of the works. The entire cost of this project is about 98 thousand crore rupees and it is to be completed by March 2023. However, the Delhi-Jaipur (Dausa)-Lalsot and Vadodara-Ankleshwar routes may open by March 2022 next year.

Better traffic between different economic hubs
This highway project was started in the year 2018 and under this the foundation stone was laid on 9 March 2019. After the completion of the project, due to this expressway, the movement between many economic hubs of the country like Jaipur, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Chittorgarh, Kota, Udaipur, Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Surat will be better. This expressway is 1380 km long, out of which contracts have been awarded for more than 1200 km and work is in progress. For its construction, more than 15 thousand hectares of land has been acquired in the states.
Features of Delhi-Mumbai ExpressWay
- At present, this expressway has eight lanes but according to the traffic, it can be increased to 12 lanes.
- Facilities like resorts, food courts, restaurants, fuel stations, logistics park and facilities for truckers will be there along this expressway.
- Helicopter ambulance service will be there in case of an accident and there will also be a heliport which will use drone services for business.
- More than 20 lakh trees and shrubs are also planned to be planted on the highway.
- This is the first and second highway project in Asia, in which roads are also being made for animals so that the wildlife movement is not affected.
- Two iconic eight-lane tunnels will also be constructed under the project.
- Due to the highway, more than 32 lakh liters of oil will be saved annually and carbon dioxide emissions will also come down by 85 crore kg.
- Under the project 1.2 million tonnes of steel will be used from which 50 Howrah bridges can be built.
- The project will consume 8 million tonnes of steen, which is about 2 per cent of the annual cement production in the country.
- Thousands of trained civil engineers have got employment with more than 50 lakh days of work due to this expressway.
