Lasalgaon: No one can guess when the onion will put whom in trouble. It includes farmers, traders and consumers. Onion growing farmers are stuck in financial crisis due to decrease in onion prices every day in Lasalgaon Agricultural Market Committee. To get them out of trouble, onions need to get a good price. For this, efforts are on by the Lasalgaon Agricultural Market Committee administration along with the traders. In such a situation, the export of onion has been affected due to increase in container fares. To give relief from this, a demand is being made to give 10 percent export subsidy from the central government.
In Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Sukh Sagar of West Bengal, the arrival of red onion is happening in a big way. The arrival of summer onions along with red onion has started in the major markets of Nashik district including Lasalgaon and Ahmednagar, Chakan and Solapur Krishi Mandi Samiti in Pune district. As a result onion prices are falling every day.

Red onion arrival will stop in 15-20 days
The general rate of red onion has come down to Rs 750 per quintal and the general rate for summer onion has come down to Rs 1,000 per quintal. Due to this, the farmers are not even getting the expenses of the onion producing farmers. In such a situation, the arrival of red onion will end in 15-20 days, then the arrival of summer onions will be massive. Summer onions remain fine for 5-6 months. Therefore, there is a high demand for summer onions abroad. Onion exporter traders have been upset due to the doubling of the container fare for exporting onions abroad.
Onion is exported to 76 countries
Lasalgaon to Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Singapore, Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Vietnam, Maldives, United Kingdom, Thailand, Brunei, Russia, Greece, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Onion is exported to a total of 76 countries along with countries like Italy, Netherlands, Seychelles, Comorez, France, Kenya, Canada, Spain, United States etc. To transport onions to Dubai, the container has to pay 2 thousand dollars as fare. Now the rent there has become 3 thousand dollars. At the same time, containers for Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia were available for 1 thousand 900 dollars. Now that is over two and a half thousand dollars. Due to this the export of onion has been affected. To solve this problem, onion traders are demanding a grant from the central government.
