Lucknow The Uttar Pradesh Election Watch Association for Democratic Reforms has analyzed the affidavits of 615 candidates out of 623 contesting in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022. Who is contesting from 58 constituencies. CRIMINAL CASES DECLARATED BY THE CANDIDATES 156 (25%) out of 615 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. Of these, 20 per cent candidates have declared serious criminal cases.
Party wise details of candidates who declared criminal cases 21 out of 28 (75%) of Samajwadi Party, 17 out of 29 (59%) of RLD, 29 out of 57 of BJP (51%), Indian National Congress out of 58 21 (36%), 19 out of 56 of BSP (34%), AAP (APP) 8 out of 52 (15%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. In the serious criminal cases declared by the candidates, 61% of the Samajwadi Party, 52% of the RLD, 39% of the BJP, 39% of the Congress and 29% of the BSP (APP) 10% of the candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

All the major parties contesting the first phase of Uttar Pradesh elections have given tickets to 15%- 75% of the candidates who have declared criminal cases against them. The Supreme Court, in its direction dated February 13, 2020, had specifically directed political parties to select candidates with criminal background and to give reasons for not giving tickets to candidates with clean image.
Political parties not interested in reforming the electoral system
During the recent elections to the 6 State Legislative Assembly held in 2020-21, it has been observed that such baseless and baseless reasons given by the political parties like popularity of person, good social work, politically motivated matters etc., it has been observed that candidates with tainted background are given tickets. Out of 615 candidates, 280 (48%) are crorepati candidates. The average assets of the candidates of the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 is 3.72 crores. Among the main parties, the average assets of 28 candidates of Samajwadi Party is 13.23 crores. The average assets of 57 BJP candidates is 12.01 crores. The average assets of 29 RLD candidates is 8.32 crores. The assets of 56 BSP candidates are 7.71 crores. The average assets of Congress candidates is 3.08 crores. The assets of 52 candidates of AAP (APP) are 1.12 crores.
Amit Agarwal’s assets are 148 crores
Among the first phase candidates, Amit Agarwal is contesting from Meerut Cantt on BJP ticket, whose assets are 148 crores. Similarly, SK Sharma is contesting from Mathura on BSP ticket, whose assets are 112 crores. Rahul Yadav is contesting from Secunderabad assembly constituency of Bulandshahr on Samajwadi Party ticket, whose assets are Rs 100 crore.
12 candidates have not declared their educational qualification
Talking about educational qualification, 39% candidates have declared their educational qualification between 5th to 12th, while 49% candidates have declared their educational qualification as graduation and above 38 candidates have declared their educational qualification as literate and 15% candidates have declared their educational qualification as literate. Educational qualification declared as literate. 12 candidates have not declared their educational qualification. Analyzing the age of the candidates, 35% of the candidates have declared their age between 25 to 40 years while 53% of the candidates have declared their age between 41 to 60 years. 12% of the candidates have declared their age between 61 to 80 years.
12 percent female candidates in the first phase
12% of the candidates for the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha are women. 74 women are in the fray this time, Uttar Pradesh ADR’s principal coordinator Dr. Sanjay Singh said that ADR recommends that political parties and all members of the society make effective interventions to check the growing influence of money power and muscle power in democracy.
