Bangalore: The controversy over hijab continued in Karnataka on Tuesday and in some places girls wearing hijab were denied admission in schools. In one such incident, a girl left the examination after wearing a hijab and not being allowed to enter the class. Angry parents of the girl students were seen arguing with the school administration and the police. An incident of a student waving a saffron scarf at one place also came to light. Last week, the Karnataka High Court in its interim order barred all students from attending class wearing saffron shawls, scarves, hijabs or any other religious mark.
High schools reopened in the state from Monday and school authorities barred girl students wearing hijab and burqa from entering class or asked to remove hijab, citing a court order. On Tuesday, a schoolgirl in Shivamogga, wearing a burqa, was asked to remove her hijab when she refused to take the exam. The girl told reporters, “We have been wearing hijab since childhood and we will not give it up. I will not take the exam and will go home.”

Muslim parents created a ruckus on the school premises after girls who came wearing hijab to SVS school in Tumakuru district were turned back on arrival.
