Lucknow, Voting for 61 seats in 12 districts of the state began at 7 am on Sunday in the fifth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022. State Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said that in the fifth phase, voting will continue till 6 pm in 61 assembly seats in 12 districts.

He said that necessary arrangements have been given to conduct the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. This time in the fifth phase, polling is being held for 61 assembly constituencies of Sultanpur, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Shravasti, Gonda, Amethi and Rae Bareli districts.
According to the information, 693 candidates are in the fray in these 61 assembly constituencies, out of which 90 are women candidates. Earlier, Shukla told reporters on Saturday that 2.25 crore voters would exercise their franchise, including 1.20 crore male, 1.05 crore female and 1727 transgender voters.
It is noteworthy that in the fifth phase, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is the BJP candidate from Sirathu assembly constituency of his home district Kaushambi, against whom Samajwadi Party has fielded Apna Dal (Communist) leader Pallavi Patel. In this phase, polling is going on in religiously important areas like Ayodhya to Prayagraj and Chitrakoot. Sanjay Singh, the head of the former princely state of Amethi, is the candidate from BJP this time in Amethi, while state government minister Rajendra Pratap Singh alias Moti Singh, Patti of Pratapgarh district, Khadi and Village Industries Minister Siddharth Nath Singh West assembly seat of Prayagraj district, Civil Aviation Minister Nand Gopal. Gupta Nandi is contesting from South seat of this district, Social Welfare Minister Ramapati Shastri is contesting Mankapur in Gonda district and Minister of State Chandrika Prasad Upadhyay is contesting from Chitrakoot assembly seat.
