New Delhi. The Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that around 17,000 Indians have left the border with war-torn Ukraine since the first advisory was issued. Based on information received from the Russian side, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine has immediately asked all its citizens to leave Kharkiv, the ministry said. “The situation is difficult but we will bring every Indian back to the country,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told reporters.
He said that we urge all Indians to leave Kharkiv immediately and move to safer places or westwards immediately. He said that based on the information received from the Russian side, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine has immediately asked all its citizens to leave Kharkiv. An Indian national, Chandan Jindal, who died of natural causes in Ukraine, was in the hospital for the past few days, a spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said. He condoled the death of Jindal.
Significantly, a day before this, an Indian student Naveen was killed due to shelling in Ukraine. Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine, which was badly affected by Russia’s military operation, on Wednesday asked all its citizens, including students, to leave Kharkiv immediately, keeping in mind their safety and security, and Pesochin, at the earliest. Babaye and Bezlyudovka arrive. “Under all circumstances, they should reach these places by 6 pm (1800) today Ukrainian time,” the Indian embassy tweeted.

The embassy further said in the advisory that those who could not find any vehicle or bus to leave from there and who were at the railway station, reached Pesochin (11 km), Babaye (12 km) and Bezlyudovka (16 km) on foot. India has launched ‘Operation Ganga’ campaign to bring back its citizens stranded in Ukraine. Under this, Indians are being brought home by air from Hungary, Romania, Poland and Slovakia after being evacuated from Ukraine through land border posts.

Bagchi said that humanitarian aid is also being sent by India to Ukraine, which includes medicines, medical equipment, tents, blankets, solar equipment etc. He said that in this the first consignment with 2 tonnes of medical aid was dispatched yesterday and three more consignments would be sent.
