Palghar (Maharashtra): A car hit the restaurant on Chinchni beach in Palghar district of Maharashtra. One woman was killed and five others were injured in the incident. Police officials gave this information on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday late evening, following which the driver of the car was arrested, he said. “As January 26 was a public holiday, a large number of people had gathered at Chinchni beach in Tarapur in the evening. However, despite the crowd, a car came to the beach and while trying to save the scooter rider, the driver lost control of the car and the car rammed into the restaurant. The woman, who was having food in the restaurant, died on the spot and five others were injured.”

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where the condition of three is said to be critical, a police official said. After the incident, several people present at the beach not only broke the windscreen of the car, but also damaged some food stalls and threw chairs, he said. The commotion went on for about an hour. As soon as the information was received, the personnel of Vangaon police station reached the spot to control the situation. A video of the mob’s uproar has surfaced on social media.
A case of negligent driving has been registered against the car driver at Vangaon police station and the woman’s body has been sent to Palghar government hospital for post-mortem, the official said.
