ThaneIn Maharashtra, Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police arrested four people as well as theft of handbags of women during wedding functions in posh areas. On Saturday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang who committed theft.
Police have recovered 300 grams of gold ornaments, six precious mobile phones and a car used in the crime, totaling Rs 21.04 lakh, from them, an official said. According to the official, an eight-year-old child used by the gang to steal handbags has also been apprehended. He said that the gang members used to carry out the incident at wedding functions in Mira Road area.
Sanjay Hazare, Senior Inspector of Mira Road Police Station said that three of the arrested accused are residents of Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, while one is from Uttar Pradesh. He said that on November 30, a case related to this gang was reported, after which the police examined the CCTV footage and worked on technical and intelligence inputs to crack the case. He said that in December, five more such cases were registered in Mira Road police station area.

“Police started scanning the CCTV footage of the marriage hall and studied the modus operandi of the gang members. The accused used to use a juvenile to carry out the act of stealing handbags. Apart from the boy, some other members used to enter the marriage hall. He used to wear good clothes to avoid doubts.”
Hazare said, “Police have identified the car used in the crime. After locating the vehicle, the accused were arrested between December 6 and 9 and around 300 grams of gold ornaments, six expensive mobiles and the car used in the crime of Rs 21.04 lakh were seized from them.
The four accused have been identified as Babu Lakhpat Sisodia (21), Aatish Amad Sisodia (23), Nikhi Ravi Sisodia (19), he said. All of them are residents of Kadia in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Karan Mahavir Singh (23) is a resident of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Hazare said that with the arrest of all these, the police have detected eight similar offenses registered at police stations of Kashimira, Oshiwara, Santacruz, Bangurnagar and Igatpuri (Nashik). He said that further information is being collected.
