The Supreme Court, while ordering the implementation of the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme by July 31, has pulled up the government’s callousness and lax attitude towards migrant laborers. The court has strongly criticized the apathy and lax attitude shown to the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment in creating a portal for registration of migrant laborers. The Supreme Court said that the ministry, in consultation with the National Informatics Center (NIC), should complete the process of creating a portal for registration of migrant laborers by July 31.
The court said, the registration of all the workers of the unorganized sector should be done soon.
The court has said that all workers in the unorganized sector should be registered at the earliest. The government should complete this work before 31 December 2021. The court believes that this portal is necessary to take advantage of the welfare steps taken by the government during the Corona epidemic. A bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan said that all the states and union territories have been directed to register all companies and contractors. Along with this, it should also be made necessary for all the contractors that they should give full details of all the migrant laborers working here.
Court reprimanded the government for not making the portal
The Supreme Court said that by not creating a portal for the unorganized and migrant laborers, the government has proved that it is not worried about the migrant laborers. But this callousness of the government cannot be allowed. The court asked the Center to provide additional ration to the states. Under the National Food Security Act, five kg of food grains are given free of cost to the beneficiaries through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). The court has said that in view of the epidemic, it is very important to guarantee the food security of the poor.
