Akot. Police in Akot is crying over their plight due to the deteriorating condition of the colony. Due to which the colony of police personnel is now in a critical state. For this reason, the seniors have made a need to pay attention to it. With the inauguration of 380 new staff quarters in Akola’s Neemwadi area on January 25, the case of a police colony in Akot city, which was in a dilapidated condition, has come to the fore again.
Broken windows in the police colony, compound walls, overgrown grass, torn tin sheets, thorn bushes growing in the open, free movement of pigs, broken pipelines everywhere, the condition of such a colony is like this. In this environment, the family members of policemen, who work day and night for the safety of every citizen of the city, are seen living their lives at risk. Citizens including the police family are expressing outrage as to when the Home Department, Public Works Department of the Government of Maharashtra will free the police personnel from this dreadful reality.
There are two police colonies in the central part of Akot city. Only 8 out of 32 houses in the new colony are fit for living. In the old colony, police families are living in 5 to 6 houses out of 14 and are doing reality by keeping their incurable lives on their palms. At present, sufficient space is available for the construction of residences of all the employees of Akot city and rural police stations.
However, the concerned departments and senior officials are not taking initiative for new construction. The employees have to pay extra rent and rent the house. The government has ordered senior officers to stay in the headquarters. But they have to be subdued due to lack of accommodation for police personnel and officers.
Many employees are facing physical ailments due to ups and downs. Some employees have lost their lives. Therefore, there is an urgent need of the government to provide well-furnished accommodation to the police personnel coming in essential services.
The office of the sub-divisional police officer is also in bad shape. And the employees have to face a lot of problems while working in the office. Hence there is a need to set up a new office for sub-divisional police officers.
There is no organization of police, they cannot agitate for their rights. However, the senior office should at least take care of providing good accommodation to its employees. The mentality and efficiency of the police is deteriorating due to living in houses like slums. – Vijay Jitkar, Human Society Organization.
We have already given detailed information to the government about the problems of construction and housing. We are working hard on this too, and are trying. – Prakash Ahire, SHO, Akot City.
