It seems that Japan will soon conduct its own investigation, which could affect both iPhone maker Apple and search giant Google.
Google And Apple
The world’s leading smartphone maker Apple and search giant Google may now have to face difficulties in this country. Apple may have to investigate more of its business parties, as the Japanese government is said to be preparing another antitrust probe against both tech giants Apple and Google. This information was given in the media report. According to Apple Insider, antitrust investigations have also been an issue with other tech giants including Apple and Google.
It seems that Japan itself will soon conduct an investigation, which could affect both the iPhone maker and the search giant. A government panel apparently will launch anti-trust rules this month, according to Nikkei sources in a report seen by Mercury News.
The panel will discuss Apple and Google’s dealings with Japanese smartphone makers, including whether they treat domestic companies fairly compared to foreign vendors. According to the report, it is believed that iOS and Android account for 90 percent of the Japanese smartphone market. The alleged Japanese investigation would become the latest in a long line of similar activity by governments and regulators around the world that would undermine the power of tech giants such as Apple.
In Europe, Antitrust Commission chief Margrethe Vestager said on June 10 that Apple should allow alternative app stores on its platform to allow fair competition. In response to the US House Judiciary Committee report on Big Tech Business Practices, US House lawmakers also targeted tech companies, revealing an array of bills on June 11.
Away from governments, Apple is recently dealing with a lawsuit from Epic Games, demanding changes to App Store policies, among other elements. Other attempts at class action antitrust lawsuits are also being made.
