Jalgaon : The bugle of municipal elections has sounded in the district. In the background of the elections, the district administration and the local level have released the Ward Structure Draft Plan on March 10. The district administration has said that objections have been invited till March 17 on the ward composition draft plan. There are 19 municipalities and nagar panchayats in the district, out of which 15 municipalities are planning to hold elections for five years. The tenure of most of the municipal corporations has ended about a year and a half ago, but since last March 2020, due to the outbreak of corona disease, the elections to the municipalities have been postponed from time to time.
With the sounding of the civic polls, the credibility of local leaders is at stake, in which BJP and NCP are competing to save the Zilla Parishad. Due to the war of supremacy between Gulabrao Patil and Khadse, the Maha Vikas Aghadi is also being questioned. In February last, as per the directions of the State Election Commission, the district administration had called for the ward composition draft plan as per the 2011 Census, followed by the municipal general elections at the primary level, of wards, as per the schedule set by the State Election Commission. For overview of formation, division viewer maps etc. were made available in the nagar panchayats in the respective municipalities.

The district administration has told that the last date for submission of application to the CEO office of the local municipality for objection and suggestion on the formation of this ward is March 17 at 3 pm. For the first time in the history of the district, the local administration has decided to conduct local body elections on time without OBC reservation. The issue of OBC reservation is pending in the state, for which the state government had also passed a separate bill by majority and announced not to hold elections to local bodies including municipalities and district councils without OBC reservation.
Municipality elections will be held on time and without OBC reservation
Although the State Election Commission has released the municipal model ward composition plan keeping the process of general elections in 15 municipalities of the district as per the schedule, so there are indications that the municipal elections will be held on time and without OBC reservation. Such a strong possibility is currently being created. The general election of Bodvad Nagar Panchayat was held in the district in two phases without OBC reservation. In the election held in January, former minister Eknath Khadse was removed from power by Shiv Sena. Historically, the saffron flag was hoisted on Bodvad Nagar Panchayat. Couldn’t even open an account in the election. The lone seat had fallen in the BJP’s bag through a lucky draw, due to which former minister Girish Mahajan, the troubleshooter of the BJP from the district, was seen to be loosening up.
In the upcoming Nagar Panchayat elections, the credibility of BJP’s troubleshooter MLA Girish Mahajan and senior NCP leader Eknathrao Khadse will be at stake. At present, the Zilla Parishad is occupied by the BJP, which Eknathrao Khadse will try to do with all his might in order to grab it and convince him of his strength in the district, in the same way, to maintain his supremacy in the district, the power of the Zilla Parishad is put in front of Girish Mahajan. The challenge is to save. The politics of both the leaders is at stake in the local body elections, Shiv Sena has also geared up to divert the expenditure from the politics of the district. There is a rift between Shiv Sena and Khadse supporters in the coming days. Time will decide how much profit and loss will be incurred by Khadse in this election.
