The Supreme Court, while hearing the case against Vijay Mallya in the contempt of court case on March 10, has reserved its decision on the punishment to be given in this case. The Supreme Court has reserved its decision on the quantum of punishment to be awarded to Mallya in the case of contempt of court by Mallya, while hearing the arguments of the amicus curiae (government-provided counsel) on the matter.
No oral entry has been made on behalf of Mallya in the hearing in the Supreme Court in this matter. The counsel representing Mallya told the court that he has not received any direction from Mallya in the matter. After this, the court has given Mallya’s representative an opportunity to present his side once again in the court tomorrow through written appeal.
Giving time to the amicus curiae also to file a written entry in the matter, the court has reserved its order on the quantum of punishment to be awarded to Mallya.

The apex court had on February 10 fixed Wednesday March 9 against Vijay Mallya and gave an opportunity to the fugitive businessman to appear before the court either in person or through a lawyer. The hearing on March 09 was adjourned for March 10. While hearing this matter today, the court has reserved its decision in the matter of quantum of punishment in this case.
Please tell that Vijay Mallya has been in the UK since March 2016. He is on bail since 18 April 2017 in a warrant on extradition issued by the Swadland Yard 3 years ago. Vijay Mallya is accused of bank loan fraud of Rs 9000 crores.

Let us tell you that Vijay Mallya was found guilty on 9 May 2017 in a case of contempt for hiding information from the court. The court found Mallya guilty of contempt of court orders by transferring $40 million to his children’s accounts and failing to provide accurate property details. The court had several times directed Mallya to appear in the court.
Even on February 10, the court had issued directions to Mallya to appear in person or through a lawyer in the contempt case against him. In the previous hearing of this case, the Supreme Court had said that if Mallya does not present his side in the court, then the court will take suo motu cognizance of the matter and take its decision.
