New Delhi. The Defense Ministry said on Saturday that the extended-range Pinaka rocket system in the last three days (Pinaka-ER) Tried several times which were successful. Following the transfer of technology by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), a private industry manufactured these rocket systems, which have been tested at Pokhran.
The Defense Ministry said, “DRDO along with the Army has tested these rockets several times in the field firing range for the last three days and evaluated their performance.” In a statement, the ministry said, “During this period, advanced range Pinaka rockets with different combat capabilities were tested at different ranges. All the tests were satisfactory.”

The Pinaka Mk-1 rocket system has a range of about 40 km, while the Pinaka II variant can hit targets from a range of 60 km. The extent of the Pinaka-ER (Mk-I variant) was not immediately known. The ministry said 24 rockets with different ranges and combat capabilities were tested. The rocket system has been jointly designed by two Pune-based DRDO laboratories – Ordnance Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), the ministry said.
