BRUSSELS (AP) — A soccer match between host Belgium and Sweden was deserted at halftime Monday after two Swedes have been killed in a capturing in central Brussels earlier than kickoff.
Fans remained contained in the King Baudouin stadium after the European Championship qualifier was stopped and chanted “All together, All together!”
The match was being performed round 3 miles (5 kilometers) away from the capturing. The groups have been tied 1-1 at halftime.
Belgium’s disaster heart raised the extent of menace in Brussels and its area to the utmost and requested residents to keep away from pointless journey.
The Swedish FA mentioned in a message to Swedish supporters on website that the Belgian police wished supporters to remain within the enviornment for safety causes.
“Keep calm and take care of each other,” the FA mentioned. “Our thoughts go out to all the relatives of those affected in Brussels.”
It was not instantly clear if the capturing was linked to terrorism, or to the Israel-Hamas battle.
A police official, who spoke on situation of anonymity as a result of they weren’t approved to talk to reporters, mentioned the 2 victims have been Swedes.
“It’s awful the news that has reached us. We have all been affected and we are trying to deal with it, both team and supporters,” mentioned Martin Fredman, the safety chief of the Swedish Football Association, chatting with Swedish TV at halftime.
